1st American Moslem Mosque, 2011
I found this mosque in a rough part of Detroit. I wasn't able to discover why the banner was hung upside-down: Was this an accident? If so, then why has it been left this way for years? On the other hand, if the sign was turned upside-down deliberately, then who would have done such a thing? If it was meant as an insult, then the turning of the sign afflicts the mosque with a perverse indignity. In any case, this mosque will celebrate the centennial of its founding with its banner hung upside-down in submission, protest, or error.
