Palestinian land inheritance is still mostly passed down through the males in a tribal, patriarchal system. My grandfather gave his land in the West Bank village Taybeh only to his sons; my father transferred his inheritance into my name alone. I hired a lawyer to legally transfer two thirds of my shares in the land to my two sisters, adding their names to the deeds. We are henceforth jointly responsible for the inheritance to which we are equally deserving.
